EAO Develops Rugged Selector Switch with Clear Status Indication
Thursday, September 16th, 2010Milford , CT – EAO Switch Corporation of Milford , CT USA , a premier global supplier
of Human Machine Interface (HMI) Components and Systems, announces their Series 04 hybrid, a rugged, large-lever selector switch. The Series 04 hybrid is an ideal HMI device for any application where it’s critical to show a very clear change in status, such as a door lock. This lever features a tough, anodized aluminum handle with a comfortable grip. Behind the lever, there’s an immensely strong stainless steel locking mechanism from EAO’s Series 04 range, allowing it to withstand harsh operation, impact, and possible vandalism.
This HMI device was originally developed as a door-locking mechanism for on-board toilet facilities in rail vehicles. EAO worked in full partnership with Bombardier, one of the world’s largest train builders, to address the needs of both passengers and service providers.
To improve comfort and privacy, passengers require a clear, reassuring indication that the door is locked when the facility is in use. It must be intuitive, attractive, and easy to use by both able-bodied and less able-bodied passengers.
For Bombardier, the selector switch complements the Series 56 pushbuttons, with their bright yellow bezel, LED halo illumination, and Braille markings. The Series 04 hybrid provides Bombardier with a robust, highly reliable solution that requires minimal maintenance and is resistant to heat, shock, and vibration. This switch, along with the Series 56, is sealed to meet IP67 standards from the front panel and has design features often referenced in disabled passenger access regulations such as RVAR (Rail Vehicle accessibility Regulations) and the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). A self-cleaning, snap-action switching element with gold-plated silver contacts provides a reliable and long service life; silver/palladium contacts may be specified for particularly aggressive environments.
EAO develops HMI Components and Systems for applications ranging from transit systems to industrial equipment. Working closely with its customers and the appropriate regulatory bodies, EAO meets and exceeds expectations for panel layout and ergonomics, system integration, and electro-mechanical design. EAO’s components and systems undergo rigorous testing to assure reliability, repeatability, and long service life. EAO is ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IRIS, and ISO/TS 16949 certified for automotive and other industry requirements.

Stackpole Electronics’ Sulfur-Resistant Resistor Chip Provides Stability, Long-Term Reliability in Industrial Applications
Sunday, May 2nd, 2010RALEIGH, NC (March 3, 2010) – Providing a high-power, low-cost alternative to thick film resistive technology, Stackpole Electronics’ RNCP Series thin film chip resistors insure high accuracy with a low TCR (temperature coefficient of resistance). Offering twice the power rating compared to standard thick film technology, the RNCP Series devices feature high tolerance to harsh environments, including shock, vibration and temperature extremes. The RNCP Series does not use lead-containing glass making the part 100% lead-free with zero exceptions. Stackpole has eliminated silver from the terminations making the part impervious to sulfur while avoiding the use of expensive metals like gold. This reduces the cost of the resistor to be within 10% of a traditional standard thick film chip and significantly reduces noise and interrupted power.
Ideal for harsh environments and systems that require long-term reliability, such as industrial and off-highway applications, the rugged RNCP Series offer all of the advantages of thin film technology, including high stability, low noise and high operating temperatures.
“With the capability to withstand high temperatures and vibration, the RNCP Series meets all necessary industrial and off-highway application requirements,” said Kory Schroeder, Director of Marketing at SEI. “In addition, the anti-sulfur material extends the operating life of this already-rugged part, which is vital for applications where long term reliability is critical.”
Featuring absolute tolerances to ±1% and a TCR of ±100ppm/°C, the RNCP Series resistors are available in 0402, 0603, 0805 and 1206 chip sizes, with power ratings from 0.1W to 0.5W and maximum working voltages from 50V to 200V.
The RNCP Series is available on standard 7-inch reels. Pricing varies with chip size, tolerance, and resistance value and ranges; contact Marsh Electronics for volume pricing.

BI Technologies Develops Thin Film Resistor Networks in Small Outline, Leadless Packages
Monday, May 18th, 2009Networks packaged in one of the industry’s smallest PCB footprints per lead count…
LAS VEGAS, NV (May 12, 2009) – Providing design engineers with a significant amount of PC board space savings, TT electronics BI Technologies has developed a new series of thin film resistor networks. Designated the SFN Series, the networks are housed in surface mount SON (Small Outline, No Lead) packages, and are available in custom, isolated, bussed and voltage divider circuit configurations.
”These SFN Series networks feature one of the smallest PC board footprints per lead count in the industry. Compared to traditional 3-lead SOT23 and 8-lead SOIC packages, the networks offer a 40% and 46% size reduction, respectively,” said Mike Torres, BI Technologies’ fixed film product manager. “With the small package size and variety of configurations, the networks are ideal for a myriad of applications, including electronic measurement equipment, semiconductor processing equipment, ultrasound equipment, and flight control systems.”
The thin film resistor networks are also specified for precision analog circuits such as instrumentation amplifiers, precision voltage dividers, measurement bridges, low noise circuitry, ladder networks and converter applications.
The SFN Series SON package style is offered in a 6-pad, 2mm square outline with a pad pitch of 0.65mm, as well as an 8-pad, 4mm square outline with a pad pitch of 0.8mm. Custom circuits are available in either package style, while voltage divider circuits are offered in the 6-pad SON package. Isolated and bussed circuit configurations are offered in the 8-pad SON package.
Standard SFN Series networks are available with two, four or 7 resistors. Nominal resistance ranges from 10ohm to 100Kohm, with absolute tolerance to +/-0.25% and ratio tolerance to +/-0.05%. TCRs are to +/-25ppm/°C and TCR tracking is to +/-5ppm/°C. BI Technologies will also produce devices outside these specifications to meet specific customer requirements.
